PBTC is a 50% aqueous solution of 2-phosphonobutane-1, 2, 4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTC) designed to control calcium scale formation and precipitation in highly stressed alkaline Industrial Water Treatment (IWT) and boiler systems. PBTC  has been widely used in industry as a sequestering agent and calcium carbonate scale inhibitor for applications in industrial water treatment and industrial cleaning.
